Therapy for Parents in Austin, TX
Build the family life you dream about.
We tend to get into healthcare for altruistic, or even self-fueled reasons: we feel empowered and alive in emergent environments, we’ve always had a knack for taking care of others, we saw a family member or maybe we were in and out of the system as a kid, or we are objectively brilliant and breezed through the lower levels of the educational system, and healthcare was the avenue that presented itself to us because through it you can make a solid, stable living and contribute positively to society. As a doctor, as a nurse, as a healthcare worker, we have the potential to make a difference in the lives of the patients we see.
However, the lived experience for my clients, and myself paints a very different picture. While working in healthcare, all too frequently we are faced with a system that does not accommodate the humanity and needs of its workers. It it promotes and congratulates selflessness and prioritization of the patient, yet in order to show up we intellectually know we need to put our own oxygen mask on first, yet all to frequently we are unable to, or at worst we never learn how. we see the patients who fall through the cracks of the systems. We often enter into workplace dynamics where we see others undermining each other. We work exceedingly long hours with few, and very short breaks. In short, it can feel like a minefield out there.
Perhaps none of this is your story and you love your job, or work in a more hospitable environment. But you feel unexplainably tired, or you’re ready for a change and you just can’t see through the fog to find what’s next. You feel stuck.
Here’s what’s possible when you go to therapy with clinician who has lived experience working within healthcare: feeling deeply and authentically seen and heard, knowing that the clinician understands your experiences, knowing that the clinician specializes in healthcare and has seen a wide range of experience and options within the career field, skills and insight about prioritizing your well-being, and, overall, a renewed sense of health and energy.
If you’re curious, reach out to see if we’d be a fit and what options are available. We look forward to hearing from you.
Do you feel stagnant in your current role? Do you begrudgingly bring yourself into work only to be met with frustrations? Do you find yourself having an increasingly low tolerance for workplace antics and patient difficulties? Do you see life through a lens of sarcasm, dark humor, and callousness, because if you don’t, the everyday experiences of your job might penetrate that barrier and get to you?
If any of these questions resonate for you, you have landed in the right spot. After nearly a decade working in the healthcare system, I grew increasingly fatigued of going into work everyday to see the failings of the healthcare, joining with my equally embittered coworkers (who I did and still do adore!), only to be laid out by the weight of the job itself in combination with a system that has no intention of providing an environment that provides the support for its employees. By the time my tenure as a nurse in the hospital ended, I was burnt out, bitter, navigating the other side of the system as a patient with multiple health issues, and overall sick and tired.
